Horse gram lentil (gahat)
Horse gram lentil is known as gahat in Nepali is considered as a medicinal food .It is one of the variety of lentil mainly consume in terai and hilly region of Nepal. It is a variety of lentil having significant value to hillside of Neplease farmer .
It is drought resistance crop which can be used as green manure to strengthen soil fertility and also important component of crop rotation . It can able to grow in arid and less fertile soil also .
Health and Nutritional values
The bean is high source of protein ,iron,and have adequate amount of calcium , vitamins which can able to provide proper nutrition to body which can be best source of food in Nepal.
Beside nutritional value it is used to control, diabetes by control and decrease high blood sugar and insulin ,for weight loss,in kidney stone and many more .
It have traditional medicinal value in Nepal.
In Nepal, Horse gram (gahat) is generally consumed as daal or soup in winter season to keep the body warm .
Some side Effect
Person sufering from uric acid problem should avoid intake of this gram.
High consumption of this gram could tremendously increase body heat .
Is Horse gram is most promising food in future to somehow control food scarcity ?
Nice Concept for Food security. It should be cultured commercially, for the best result and to improve and increase its production in mass.
